I finished it a week ago, (cheated though, book on tape). This is one of my all-time favorites. I do have some questions and can't wait for book club. I still have the book on tape from the library if anyone is in need. It's due Feb 26th.
I wish they hadn't published it in the romance novel red cover with embossed gold lettering -- that's the version I bought at B&N. But I am slowly re-reading it and hope to have it all finished in time for a lively discussion at book club.
I agree about the cover, pretty cheesy!
Well, we missed you guys at book club! Allison, what was it you wanted to say and ask about it?
I read this book back in high school and it was my favorite. I had Daniel read it, too, (also in high school) and we thought we'd name our daughter Manderly Rebecca (Rebecca is my mom's name too so it wouldn't be after the evil one). We were over that idea by the time Emily came along, I guess.
Cheryl, did you finish it? Have any of you seen the movies? They change it some, but I loved the Alfred Hitchcock one growing up.
There were some things that escape me now that I knew would come up in our discussion, doggone it... I loved the book, I really did, but thought the ending quite abrupt. I think its relatively obvious Manderly's destruction was brought about by Mrs. Danvers, but I would have liked a little more... closure?...at the end. I guess we get that at the beginning. But not enough! By the way, Ivy, nice to have you home again.
I did finish it and loved it all over again! I really wanted to attend book club but couldn't due to Taylor's mission call that evening -- to the Micronesia Guam mission. And I won't be able to attend in June (more than likely) because that's the day he goes into the MTC and I plan to be sedated. This is REALLY tough! I don't know how moms do it, but I guess I'll find out.
